Fall, that wonderful time of year when the air gets a little colder and the leaves begin to change color. I’ve always enjoyed this time of year and especially enjoyed it when my children were younger. I do remember some great activities that we had done with our children when they were younger. Those family bonding moments don’t happen too often anymore now that my children are in their twenties. The maze we went to at a farm and were given a map to find our way through to the end. The pumpkin picking and slides at the farm. The corn cannon that my boys got to shoot from. I also remember the beautiful colors and shapes of the leaves turning color. I would often show my boys the unique colors and shapes of the leaves on the trees.
I wanted my boys to remember each of the seasons and all the unique things about them. Fall is great for big sweaters and a fire in the fireplace. Pumpkin picking is always a fun activity to include the family in doing. Pumpkins can be either decorated with paint, carved or drawn on with markers. We did have the opportunity to carve out pumpkins one year using a drill, some carving tools and a template.
Picking out costumes with my boys for Halloween is always a fun activity to include them in. There are so many different characters now for costumes that they can choose to be almost anything they want. If you can’t find it in a store, you can often make it at home yourself using household items or sewing it.
Decorating the house for Fall is something I have always enjoyed. I have lots of fake pumpkins that I like to put out. I put a flag in our front yard for Fall that is a pumpkin and put other Fall themed decorations such as flowers and leaves throughout the house. I used to enjoy seeing the children’s faces as they got to look at all the decorations.
Handing out candy while you are dressed up and getting to see the other children’s costumes is always a fun thing as well. One year my husband and I dressed up as Thing One and Thing Two to hand out candy. This is always a fun treat. Making a house with spooky music for the children to listen to when they come to get candy is always a fun time.
Fall baked goods is something that many people cherish. I know when we make pumpkin pie, apple pie and pumpkin cookies to eat. Fall definitely would not be complete without all the baked goods that go along with it.
There are so many unique ways that you can celebrate the season of Fall. There are also Fall Festivals complete with crafts, activities and music. What traditions will you make with your family this year to celebrate Fall ?
