When Fall comes around it’s always nice to add a pop of color to your garden and if you include your children, you will be teaching them about growing. Some great plants to put in your garden in the Fall are mums, aster, sedum, pansies, black eyed Susan, marigolds. It’s a good learning experience for children to learn to plant and grow flowers.
Children can be taught about how deep to dig a hole for the different flowers. They can also be taught about the care of each one of the flowers. You can help your child to read the tags attached to the plants for care or look up on the internet how to care for the plants. Some plants require shade and some require full sun. There are many things that go into the care of the plants and teaching your children is a great lesson. They can learn how much water to give the plants and what time of day is best to water the plants. You can buy your son or daughter a watering can so they can water the flowers themselves and watch them grow. Stores often sell small watering cans for children, and they can pick out the design or color they like. You could also decorate their watering can with stickers or paint to make it personal for them.
Mulching around the plants is often necessary to keep the water in the soil and keep the plants moist. You and your child can go to the store to purchase the mulch together so they can learn what type and how much to buy.
