What’s tastier than sharing apple donuts and apple cider with your kids on a Fall afternoon? You can make these delicious treats with your kids from scratch. Why not take them to the local orchard and let them pick some apples? Your kids will learn the process of how these things are made from start to finish.
You can show your kids how to wash and peel the apples to get them ready for the recipe. I would suggest just letting them wash the apples and help with the mixing as the peeler is too sharp for kids to use. There are different variety of apples to choose from and picking the right type for your recipe is a good idea. There is mackintosh, granny smith, and so many different types available. It’s best to research the type of apple that is best for your recipe first. If your kids are too young for apple picking or you just don’t have the time, you can use apple sauce from the grocery store instead.
Several of the items that you will need to make your apple donuts are flour, ground nut meg, cinnamon, butter eggs, buttermilk, grated apple or apple sauce. A baking pan, cooking spray, cheese grater, zip lock bag are other items you will need. There are some great recipes that you can print out from the internet to use. Apple cider can often be found for purchase at the farm stand or grocery store. If you are feeling really ambitious you could find a recipe for cider and make your own.
