Daily writing prompt
If you could make your pet understand one thing, what would it be?

Humming bird

Hummingbird fly You may reach the sky Flitter and flow Going high and then low Dodging to and fro Buzzing and gliding You’re often seen yellow, red, purple and emerald green scales reflecting light and shiny Oh, so delicate and tiny This poem is not to be copied or reproduced in any form.

Winter Time

Children frolic, sled and make snow men Snowballs piled in groups of ten A white landscape stretched across the land Children building forts across the snow band Girls gliding across the snow and ice rink Boys testing the lake hoping not to sink Snowball fights and long winter nights Wearing winter coats, hats and mittens…

Writing and children

I have had a love of writing since the time I was young. I have written several children’s books which I hope to get published as well as poetry. I feel it is important to bring that love to children. If you are raising children and they are at the age when they can write…

Reading fairytales to our children allows them to use their imagination and escape into a different world. Children get learn different lessons when they are read fairytales. Fairytales are those great stories from childhood that feature magical creatures and themes of good vs evil. They originate from folklore. They are often passed down through the generations. They include such elements as fairies, witches, giants and animals that talk. They teach things such as good morals and good is rewarded over evil.

Fables convey moral lessons as well as fairytales. In fables you will find animals, legendary creatures, plants, inanimate objects or forces occurring in nature. A good example of a fable would be the tortoise and the hare. Fairytales are longer than fables and include magic and fantastical creatures, and sometimes royalty. A fable is supposed to instruct us on practical life lessons or moral truths. Fables feathers animals, plants or forces of nature. Fairytales feature humans, princes, princesses, fairies, giants and witches. Fairytales usually include magic, spells and elements that are supernatural. Fables on the other hand lack magic relying on the behavior of characters to teach lessons.

Fables usually conclude with a clear moral and fairytales typically end with a happily ever after in the story. These types of stories are originated from oral traditions and are often used to teach children values. Why not go to the library or your local bookstore to find one of these stories to share with your children this weekend?
